MP Malcolmson on the North Coast Tanker Ban

Speech in the House of Commons

I oppose Kinder Morgan’s pipeline expansion and have done so, on record, since 2011. It would boost bitumen oil tanker shipments from once a week to once a day, through sensitive ecology that cannot handle a spill. This is all downside, no upside for Nanaimo—Ladysmith.

By keeping Harper’s lax oil spill response rules, and failing to prove how they would handle a bitumen oil spill, Liberal BC MPs and Justin Trudeau have undermined coastal communities.

I brought the voice of B.C's south coast to the House last week, and continue to emphasize the risks and impacts of an oil spill for B.C's coast, and what's at stake for coastal communities.

Thanks to Canada’s NDP / Le NPD du Canada
and awesome BC MPs Nathan Cullen and Fin Donnelly for their voices on this issue and their work to try to strengthen Bill C-48.
