MP Malcolmson stands with Islanders against anchorages in the House

Five commercial deep-sea anchorages for freighters proposed for the Salish Sea off Gabriola Island’s northeast coast, are causing deep concern in our community.

New anchorage traffic in the Salish Sea brings the risk of an oil spill on our sensitive shoreline, particularly on Sandwell Provincial Park and Whalebone Beach, which is Snuneymuxw First Nation territory.

I stood with islanders in Parliament this week to call again for the new bulk anchorage applications to be rejected by Transport Minister Marc Garneau.
