Keep Plastic Out of Our Water: Support M-151
Plastic pollution in aquatic environments poses a serious threat to the health and well-being of wildlife, our sensitive ecosystems, and our communities.
On November 2, 2017, MP Gord Johns for Courtenay—Alberni put forward M-151, a motion in the House of Commons to address this critical issue. The motion aims to:
- Create a permanent, dedicated, and annual funding for community-led clean-up projects
- Reduce consumer and industrial use of ‘single use’ plastics
- Create a strategy to address cleanup of derelict fishing gear
- Promote education and outreach campaigns on the root causes and negative environmental effects of plastic pollution
