Join us for a Town Hall on Pharmacare, hosted by MP Sheila Malcolmson for Nanaimo—Ladysmith with guest MP Don Davies, New Democrat Health Critic.

In Canada, if you cut your finger, you go to a doctor and get treated with stitches.  When it’s done, you walk out and never see a bill. But if you walk into a doctor’s office and get diagnosed with an illness that requires prescription medication, you’re at the mercy of your ability to pay. That doesn’t make any sense.

With the second-highest prescription drug prices in the industrialized world, too many Canadians are forced to choose between refilling their fridge and refilling their prescription at the end of each month. Universal pharmacare would mean eliminating out-of-pocket costs for families and significant savings for employers, and our public health care system.

The NDP has long called for a national pharmacare strategy and believes that all Canadians deserve access to essential medications as part of our universal health care system.
