Women's Organizations Request Deadline Extension
December 5th, 2016 - 5:29pm
Many women's organizations reached out to me last week with concerns that they wouldn't be able to meet the federal government's December 8th deadline for funding proposals. They were surprised by the lack of outreach and publicity around the short timeline, and even past recipients of grants from Status of Women Canada expressed similar frustrations.
The deadline falls during the UN's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. For many women's organizations, this vital campaign is a very busy time because they're focusing their energy on spreading awareness about ending violence against women. For most, it means they don't have the capacity to produce all the required documents in time to meet the submission deadline.
In order to support these organizations that working to advance gender equality, I have written a letter to Status of Women Minister Patty Hajdu urging her to extend the open call for proposals deadline for funding applications beyond December 8th.
